Is this the reptilian version of It‘s Pennywise? A woman in Mississippi looking for her missing cat came face-to-face instead with a 7-foot alligator that was lurking in a storm drain.

Brooque Snow, from Pascagoula, Miss., told news station WLOX she and her stepdaughter were roaming her neighborhood block trying to locate her cat when she thought to look down a storm drain.

“We looked inside and there was an alligator,” she said. “At first we’re like wait a minute, so we took a second glance… then I took out my phone, took a picture and I told the neighbors.”

Snow said she immediately called animal control officers, who arrived at the scene to scope out the lurking gator. When the officers saw that the gator was more than four feet long, they called Mississippi wildlife officials, according to WLOX.

State officials soon arrived and wrangled the alligator out of the drain — and it turned out the animal was just over seven feet long.

Officials said Snow did the right thing by calling professional handlers right away. “You don’t want to feed the gators even if they’re in your yard, you don’t want to try to trap them yourself,” said Pascagoula Police Capt. Doug Adams, who confirmed that animal control has captured the gator and plans to release it into a nearby marsh.

The City of Pascagoula shared photos of the gator on their Facebook account, and residents were quick to express their delight — and concern.

“Exciting day on our street,” said one posted. “Please name him Pennywise,” said another.

Other Facebook users pointed out how the situation could have gotten worse. “At least he found the storm drain and not someone’s doggie door,” said a commenter.
